Funding & Support
Erowid Center operates in the style of public radio or television, supported by the donations of our visitors. The site is a service project, intended to change the nature of publicly available information about psychoactives.
One of the strengths of the Erowid Project is our long-term consistency. Visitors need to be able to rely on the library to be available (not just now, but next year and the year after that), active (with corrections and feedback being handled quickly), and up-to-date. We now serve information to more than 30,000 unique visitors each day, more than 8 million each year. With this tremendous interest, we need a core staff of skilled, knowledgable and reliable editors working on the project on a daily basis.
Because of the controversial nature of the site, we rely on the contributions of individuals and organizations who support our goals. We do not share the prohibitionist view that the population can't be trusted with accurate and specific information about the use of psychoactives. Because of this, government funding grants are generally unavailable to us. Instead, we ask for the support of those who believe in free access to this type of information.
Donations and membership dues are used to cover costs and maintain, update, and expand the data available in the online library. As of Jan 1st, 2008, donations made to Erowid Center are tax-deductible.
